What Eurocentric translation frameworks cannot carry, and what happens to Yorùbá literary texts when we insist that they do.
I am a scholar of linguistics and literature, with Yorùbá as my primary language of interest. I completed both my BA and MA with distinction (Ausgezeichnet) at the Department of African Linguistics and Literature, University of Bayreuth.
My current work interrogates the epistemological limits of Eurocentric translation frameworks when they are applied to African literary texts. It brings Yorùbá literary translation into direct conversation with broader questions of knowledge production and interpretive authority in African studies.
The question underneath it is simple to state and hard to answer: when a framework built elsewhere is used to read a text from here, what does it register, and what does it quietly discard?
& teaching
Alongside the theoretical work I am committed to Yorùbá language documentation and teaching, and to the intersections of African languages with emerging technologies, including AI and language technologies.
That commitment is why the research and the product work are not two careers. The tools in the next section exist because teaching a language exposes exactly where the existing tools give up.
