Sample file: AI image editing

Before.
After.

A selection of images edited with AI, from a product photo to famous scenes. I change the clothes, the background, the surroundings and what is in the scene, then check the result for mistakes and for a natural look.

Drag the line on each card, or focus it and use the arrow keys, to compare the original with my edit.

The same stadium seen from above, now standing on a round platform in the middle of the open sea with white waves around it. An aerial photograph of the Allianz Arena in Munich, surrounded by roads and railway land. OriginalMy edit

A stadium at sea

  • New surroundings
  • Lighting match
  • Fine detail

Everything around the stadium is replaced: roads, rail yards and car parks give way to open water with a wake. The base of the building is extended into a round platform, and the light and shadow on the white panels stay consistent.

A colour image of the same man in a brown tweed suit standing at a shopping cart in a modern German supermarket, with shelves and produce behind him. The original black and white portrait of Albert Einstein in front of a blackboard, 1921. OriginalMy edit

Einstein goes shopping

  • Colour
  • New background
  • Scene building

A black and white portrait from 1921 becomes a colour scene in a modern German supermarket. The blackboard is replaced by shelves, fresh produce and shop signs, and the suit, tie and skin tones are coloured to match the light.

One painting, four looks

  • Clothing
  • Variants
  • Style match

The original painting, a Bavarian dirndl, an office portrait and a sports shirt share one frame. Drag the three lines to open a window onto each look: pull them apart to widen one, or bring them together to hide it.

Original: Leonardo da Vinci, Mona Lisa (public domain, via Wikimedia Commons).

The same four stainless steel kitchen appliances, a dome kettle, a coffee maker, a tall kettle and a toaster, evenly spaced on a clean white background with soft light. A casual snapshot of the four appliances crowded together on a blue worktop in front of a cream wall with a wall socket. OriginalMy edit
Sample 04

Snapshot to catalogue

  • Product photo
  • Clean background
  • Light and colour

A casual kitchen snapshot, with a dull wall, a blue worktop, harsh light and a wall socket, becomes a catalogue-style product photo. The appliances are separated and evenly spaced on a plain white background, with soft light, clean reflections on the steel and true colours.

The same Berlin avenue without the gate: a wide paved street lined with trees and lamp posts leading to the Victory Column in the distance. The original photograph of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin with a few people in front of it. OriginalMy edit
Sample 05

The gate steps aside

  • Object removal
  • Scene rebuild
  • Perspective

The Brandenburg Gate is removed completely. The avenue behind it is rebuilt with trees, lamp posts, paving and the Victory Column in the distance, and the crowd stays exactly where it was.

The same wireless mouse sitting upright on a wooden desk next to a keyboard, with the charging cable plugged into the front edge so it can be used while charging. A wireless mouse lying on its side on a wooden desk with a cable plugged into its underside, so it cannot be used while charging. OriginalMy edit

Fixing a design flaw

  • Product edit
  • Concept fix
  • Fine detail

A well-known complaint: this mouse cannot be used while it charges, because its charging port is on the underside. In my edit the mouse sits upright, ready to use, with the port moved to the front edge and the cable plugged in there. The desk, the keyboard and the loop of the cable stay the same.
